Crystal Wu
Crystal Wu is a Melbourne-based artist working between Melbourne and Shanghai. Her mixed media practice is driven by an intuitive process of layering, erasure and material experimentation. Through abstraction, she explores the tension between spontaneity and restraint, creating works that are both expressive and contemplative. Her works have been exhibited in Australia and internationally.

Inspired by the fishing village of Mui Ne in southern Vietnam, this painting reflects the rhythm of a landscape shaped by sea, wind and light. Rather than depicting the place directly, it transforms memory into abstraction through expressive gestures, layered colour and shifting textures. The recurring triangular form quietly echoes the silhouette of the traditional Vietnamese conical hat, becoming a subtle symbol of the people whose lives are woven into the coastal landscape. Between movement and stillness, Mui Nei captures not a destination, but the atmosphere and emotional imprint of a place that lingers long after leaving.
