Artwork Statement
Gym showoffs poke fun at the cult-like obsession with gym culture in the queer world. As a queer person who has absolutely no interest in gyms, he find the whole thing both fascinating and amusing — the routines, the posing, the flexing, the protein shakes, and the constant peacocking.
 
The figures proudly parade themselves around like exotic birds, showing off their bodies almost as badges of honour. Through humour and exaggeration, the works explore ideas of performance, vanity, masculinity, and the strange social rituals that can exist within queer culture.
 
Artist Bio
Mr Dimples is a Bendigo street artist primarily working with paste ups and stencils. His art has always come from an emotional experience, whether happy, angry or frustrated. Mr Dimples was born, one night in 2012, where the artist had a few scary experiences of an intruder hanging around his house, causing many sleepless nights. He used art as an emotional response inspired by the frustrations of his life, such as friendship, work, social media/technology and dating. Using his distinctive style and iconic characters, each canvas tells a story of events or people in the artist’s life.
