Artwork Statement
The works exhibited for In Between, at the Creative Asia Art Centre, explore both the fragility and complex beauty of interpersonal attachment. They occupy a fantasy based maximalist narrative that explores iconography, queer joy, the whimsical and the sometimes-dark nature of growth. I am interested in human attachments, with each other and in relationship with the natural environment - which also feels delicate, beautiful and often at risk of threat.
Artist Bio
Bella Insch is an emerging visual artist, working primarily in ceramic sculpture. Bella grew up on Yuin Country and currently lives and works in Naarm {Melbourne, Australia}. Bella was recently a finalist in the National Emerging Art Prize (2024) and The Muswellbrook Art Prize (2025 & 2026). She holds a Graduate Diploma and Master of Art Therapy as well as a bachelor’s degree in visual arts (Majoring in sculpture and drawing). Bella is proudly a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Her work explores the complexity of interpersonal intimacies, religious iconography, queer joy, intersectionality and personal narratives of loss and belonging. Bella's work is exhibited and held in private collections nationally and internationally.
