Artwork Statement
Follow the Dragon, Follow Your Heart was created by Germaine Chan for her debut solo exhibition in 2024 — the Year of the Wood Dragon and her birth sign. Set in a bamboo forest, the dragon symbolises resilience, strength, and personal power, qualities reclaimed through transformation and reconnection with heritage. Born from a meditative vision with the Spirit of the Wood Dragon, the work became an act of release — shedding doubt and inherited limits while embracing truth, courage, and the wisdom of the heart. Reflecting all three themes of Inspired Her — Claiming Names, Kindling Lights, and Igniting Resonance — the piece honours ancestry, growth, and the healing power of creativity as a path back to self.
 
Artist Bio
Germaine Zhu May Chan is a Malaysian-Chinese artist based in Melbourne, Australia. Working under her brand Empath Designs, she creates visionary and spiritually inspired art that invites mindfulness, self-connection, and personal transformation. Born in Penang, Malaysia, Germaine has been artistic since childhood, often expressing her creativity through school projects and hobbies. After moving to Australia, she found the freedom to explore her individuality more deeply and reconnect with both her creative roots and spirituality. She holds a Bachelor of Multimedia Design (Honours) and spent 13 years in the graphic and web design industry. Her art practice began during a quiet search for deeper meaning and evolved into a spiritual and healing expression of her personal growth. Germaine works across digital and organic mediums, including earth mandalas and sculptural installations. Her debut solo exhibition, Follow the Dragon, held in August 2024, honoured her 10-year journey of self-discovery. Through her work, she hopes to inspire healing, joy, and inner peace in others.
