The Dissemblance of Breath

Mixed Media, 2024

Artwork Statement

The Dissemblance of Breath is an installation comprising 120 metres of black tulle, each tear methodically resewn to expose the history of its rupture. Debuting in 2022 and presented internationally through 2024, this iteration brings together the textile installation and the original video performance, allowing object and action to coexist. In the video, sweeping the fabric produces a sound reminiscent of breathing, with the tulle remaining the central image throughout. The sewn tears function as scars, not concealment, but testimony. Together, the works open a contemplative space, extending the artist’s inquiry into grief and how loss is held within queer communities.
