Artwork Statement
Knights of Elements – Fire Spirit reinterprets the horse as a contemporary mythological figure situated between Eastern and Western symbolic systems. Part of the ongoing Knights of Elements series, the sculpture explores how cultural memory, ritual, and identity evolve across migration, urban experience, and digital realities. Produced through high-precision 3D ceramic printing and glazed in Jingdezhen, China, the work exists between ceremonial object, speculative artefact, and imagined future guardian figure.
 
Artist Bio
Jiabao Zhao is a Sydney-based interdisciplinary artist and creative technologist working across sculpture, installation, animation, and spatial environments. His practice explores cultural memory, symbolic structures, and material transformation through both digital and physical processes. Combining computational design, digital fabrication, and ceramic methods, he develops works that draw on architectural thinking and speculative visual language. Zhao’s practice investigates imagined artefacts and spatial forms situated between mythology, public space, and contemporary culture.
