Artwork Statement
A trinket tray holds everyday objects, a ring, keys, and the rituals of returning home. Along its edge, a childhood house and the Melbourne skyline sit side by side, symbolising two places that have shaped a life. Inspired by the act of emptying one’s pockets at the end of the day, Resting Tray reflects on belonging as something lived and renewed through daily routines. It suggests that home is no longer divided between past and present; instead, both places coexist, resting together within the same story.
 
Artist Bio
Ellie Purnama is a Melbourne-based artist working in watercolour and acrylic. Her practice explores memory, symbolism, and storytelling through detailed compositions inspired by everyday life. A recurring use of gold introduces themes of transformation and value, while her delicate imagery invites viewers to discover meaning and connection within familiar objects and experiences.
