The Plateau Beyond and Silent Boundaries reflect on the Tibetan plateau as a space where landscape, time, and spirituality converge. Through images of snow-covered grasslands, weathered rock, yaks, and fragile vegetation shaped by wind and altitude, the works move beyond documentary representation to explore endurance, silence, and the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Rather than presenting Tibet as a fixed landscape, the works approach it as a slowed temporal space—one shaped by stillness, repetition, and the quiet persistence of life under extreme conditions. Snow, frozen earth, and eroded surfaces become metaphors for memory, resilience, and impermanence, while the act of observation transforms the landscape into a contemplative encounter with time, vulnerability, and the search for spiritual grounding.
Artist Bio
Gesang Jiacuo is a Tibetan photographer and cinematographer whose practice explores the relationship between landscape, memory, and cultural identity. Having worked as Director of Photography across Tibetan films, documentaries, and commercial productions, he is particularly interested in capturing moments of stillness within moving narratives. Rooted in a deep connection to his homeland, his work offers an intimate perspective on the Tibetan plateau, moving beyond romanticised representations to reflect the enduring relationships between people, land, and lived experience.
