Wisteria
Chinese ink on paper, 60 × 230 cm, 2026
Artwork Statement
This work reinterprets the image of wisteria through expressive brushwork and ink, focusing not on precise surface detail but on capturing the flower’s inner spirit and atmospheric presence. Influenced by traditional Chinese painting philosophy, the work emphasises emotional resonance and the relationship between form and void, allowing the image to emerge through gesture, rhythm, and balance. Rather than functioning as a literal representation, the painting invites viewers into a contemplative encounter where personal perception, memory, and emotion intersect through the subtle energy of the composition.
Artist Bio
Amanda Guo is an artist whose practice is informed by classical Chinese philosophy, particularly the ideas of Laozi and Zhuangzi. Her work explores the relationship between form, void, and transformation, seeking to capture the inner spirit or “aura” of objects and spaces beyond surface appearance. Through painting, she develops compositions guided by balance, order, and intuition, where emotional refinement and spatial structure converge, allowing meaning to emerge through the harmony between external observation and inner perception.
